Is It Worth Working in Singapore

I have been working in Singapore for 4 years. Four years ago, I decided to come to Singapore without too much consideration. In my mind, I just felt so exciting that I can go out for travelling and feel the free life (You will understand if you live with your parent). However, things always don’t happen as what we expect. Life is more tough than I thought, especially living in a different country. Because of the huge increasing of the number of foreigners, Singapore citizens start to doubt the immigration policy. To response the citizens debate, Singapore government tighten eligibility for employment pass holders. So it’s time to consider whether it is worth working in Singapore any more.

As my opinion, it becomes more and more hard to decide. I would be say “Yes” if you asked this questions 3 years ago. However, the situation changed. Compare with my former colleague, the income is getting closer and closer than that in Shanghai, my home town. Because the company doesn’t pay the CPF, I have to pay pension in Shanghai by my self every month. It is almost S$400 Singapore dollar.

Along with the salary increase, the cost of living also rise a lot in the past 4 years. For example, the rental is S$400 for a common room without air-con 4 years ago. Now, my rental is S$580, and the room is smaller than my first one. And now, the foreign work policy get tighter. But it seems that there are lots of foreigners still keep coming to this small island country state.

Actually, people will lost lots of things once they decide to leave their family for some new life. It is really true. At least, I start to regret 🙁

If IBM, it will be a good experience for you. If you want to know if the salary is high, it depends. But if they offer your place to live, you can consider about it. Most of my cost is rental.

        Good luck!
